St Agnes Croquet Club

St Agnes Croquet Club was started seven years ago. Initially we had about 30 members, mainly from the village. Today we have over seventy, many from outside the village – including Falmouth, Truro & Perranporth.

Some of our members are experienced players but the majority had not played before. In a short period, they have progressed from being complete novices to playing confidently in club competitions and ladders and in matches against other clubs.

We cater for all levels of experience and levels of interest. Many members play for the sheer fun, plenty of gossip and many laughs.

We are a very sociable club; tea and cake feature strongly and are as important as winning – well almost. Croquet may be your game – you just haven’t tried it.

We are always willing to give anyone interested a trial game so don’t hesitate to contact us via the contact page. You can pick the game up in ten minutes and spend the next ten years trying to out-wit your opponents.

You may find croquet is the game you’ve been waiting for – brains not brawn win the day.

During the current pandemic we have of course followed all the government measures. We played all through last summer and were able to restart this March.

What is Croquet?

Croquet is a game played by 2 or 4 players with mallets, 4 balls and 6 hoops on a flat grass lawn twice the size of a lawn tennis court. There are two main versions: one learnt in 10 minutes and quite an aggressive game, the other is like snooker on grass and takes more time to master. The Croquet Association video below tells you more.
